Case Study – Security: Devcon

Replacing nearly 100 machines wasn’t an option.

Neither was the status quo.

Client: Devcon Security Services Corp.

The Challenge:

Devcon installs and monitors electronic security services for over 140,000 commercial and residential customers.

Internally speaking, the company’s IT Department was burdened by a heavy workload devoted to managing their print environment of 75 laser printers and 25 copiers when they could have been focusing on tasks of higher priority. Mosaic quickly realized that Devcon’s output costs were also high and needed to be substantially reduced by utilizing its devices more effectively.

Action Plan:

Our recommendations save the IT Help Desk 8 hours per week on output-related work, which over the course of a year, returns $31,680 in time spent servicing equipment back to the company.

Devcon’s facility was of the size that it required more than the standard number of walk-throughs to understand the environment and recommend the optimal layout of devices. So after four such walk-throughs and multiple meetings with key stakeholders, Mosaic’s team determined that the company’s 14 different models of copiers needed to be re-aligned with more uniform specifications and upgrades. In addition to this device refresh (not replacement), we saw an opportunity to provide Devcon greater savings through a lease restructuring.

Results:

The financial impact of the redeployment of Devcon’s machines would help provide the company an overall cost savings of $326,984 over 39 months.

We even saved Devcon on some important “soft” costs too. Our recommendations save the IT Help Desk 8 hours per week on output-related work, which over the course of a year, returns $31,680 in time spent servicing equipment back to the company.
